Geography Champ!

PC's teacher suggested that he participate in the school Geography Bee. He loves social studies and has such a great memory. The kid is a walking Trivial Pursuit game. It is so fun to go on vacations with him because when we're visiting somewhere he is always telling us things about the place that he learned in school or read somewhere or saw on the Discovery Channel. So he decided to study for the Geography Bee. He was given a list of things to study. I read over the list--- names of countries, states, and cities in the US and around the world, names and locations of major landmarks, parks and bodies of water in the US and around the world....well that didn't exactly narrow anything down so I just gave him a world map and told him to have at it. He studied some but then decided to just go and give it a try. Well that go and give it a try turned into winning the whole thing! The questions were so hard! Most of the adults there didn't know the answers. I was really proud of him. Since he was just "giving it a try" I didn't even take my camera with me, so sad! He'll take a written test next to see if he will compete in the state bee. Way to go, PC!

Buyer Beware!

Warning: The following post is about pantyhose, or nylons or whatever you like to call them. If that is a little too personal for you, feel free to read another blog.

So I was shopping for pantyhose and found some that were labeled Waistband Free. They were also Control Top. Yes, I'll admit to buying control top, I do need a little control on the top. Well it's more in my middle than my top, but anyway.....I thought the waistband free thing might look better. No tightening or bunching in the middle from a waistband. Maybe a nice, sleek, controlled-looking middle. Oh, I was SO wrong. Because that good, tight waistband is not there to hold anything up. Really, what good is control top when my pantyhose had slid down around my cheeks by the time I got to church. And I don't mean the cheeks on my face. I know, way too personal. Don't say that I didn't warn you! SO if you saw me at church fidgeting and walking like a penguin, you'll know why. Seriously, Waistband Free is NOT a good thing. Even if I was a little more slender, I don't think they would have stayed up. Who are they making these for anyway? Didn't they test them on anyone? If they are going to sell pantyhose without a waistband they really should label them knee-highs, because that's about what they ended up being.

Ok, thanks for listening. Now you can go on with your day.

Girls in White Dresses

We did a photo shoot of A. in her baptism dress. My mom made her dress. I'm so lucky to have such a talented mother! She has sewn all of the grandchildren's blessing outfits and this was her first baptism dress as A. is the oldest grandaughter. She mentioned to me that the next white dress that she sews for A. will be her wedding dress. Wow, slow down!! The dress and the pictures turned out so beautifully. Thanks, Mom. And thanks, Kate for the great photos. A. had so much fun playing princess at your house!

Growing pains...for me anyway.

I was giving E. a bath last night and used the last of the Johnson's Baby Wash. The thing is...that was the last bottle in the house and he is the last baby in our family and I don't want to give up on that fresh-clean-baby-just-out-of-the-tub smell and if I start using the regular shampoo and soap on him I won't have that smell anymore. AHHHHHH!!! I know, not really sad but oh, I'm so sad. Just when do I stop buying anything that smells baby fresh? How old is too old to smell like that? They don't give advice about this in the baby books. There are ages and stages for everything but not on this end of it. How old is too old to rock him to sleep? How old is too old to hold his hand when we're walking? At what age do I take the rocking chair out of his room? At what age do I stop calling him the baby? I never questioned these things before because there was always another baby to do all these things with. But not this time. He goes to kindergarten next year and just thinking about the first day of school brings tears to my eyes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not wanting another baby. But now that I'm at that point I feel unprepared for letting go. Poor E., he will always be the baby. And I just might be rocking him to sleep until he goes on his mission.

I think I'll go and buy another bottle of Johnson's Baby Wash. One more bottle won't hurt.
