Sunday night at 8:00....knock on the door...it's our next door neighbor's kids: "Have you guys seen our snake? We were playing with it in our front yard and now we can't find it."
EXCUSE ME...Did you just say SNAKE?? Somewhere loose in the front yard???
Monday morning at 8:00...talking with the same neighbor at the bus stop: "Yeah, just let us know if you run across the snake. We never did find it last night."
OH YEAH....you bet I'll let you know if I run across it!! Maybe I'll run across it with my car or the back of a shovel. :) Just kidding.....I think!

An Ode to the Twenty-Fourth of March
There once was a mother with 4 darling kids
Who'll admit she'd had a rough day.
Evening had come
And dinner was done
Sorry kids, she didn't want to play.
The dad was at scouts, she wanted to pout
So she settled in on the soft couch,
She wanted to chill
Perhaps take a pill
Her ankle was making her say, "Ouch!"
She turned on the TV to catch a good show
American Idol always cheered this good mama,
But to her dismay
No Idol today
Only a speech from President Obama.
"No food on the carpet!" she said once again
She'd said it a hundred times before.
But when she looked up
Her child was holding a cup
Of chocolate milk that spilled all over the floor.
She couldn't believe what she'd just seen
Chocolate milk all over the rug
So she sent them to bed
(Her face was bright red)
Without even so much as a hug!

My Kids Meet the Classics

The kids pulled out a "Little Rascals" dvd last night. You know the ones, made in the 1930's. Black and white even. I remember laughing like crazy while watching the show on TV when I was a kid. (No, I am not that old, they used to play reruns on Saturday mornings.) Well it was good to see that now in the days of Sponge Bob and a host of other ridiculous kids shows, my kids laughed like crazy at the Little Rascals. Yes, Alfalfa, Spanky, Darla, Chubby and Buckweat have still got it. In fact, I was laughing like crazy at my kids laughing like crazy. Even Sponge Bob can't make them laugh like that! One of the episodes from last night showed a group of kids playing in an orchestra. Obviously they weren't really the ones playing, but apparently my kids didn't realize that. A. said that it was amazing that little kids could play so well. PK said, "Well they didn't have video games way back then so kids had a lot more time to practice things and get really good." Hmmmm, ya think?

Maybe I should take my own advice!
The weirdest thing happened this morning. I started in with my regular Friday house cleaning and decided to take a break in between cleaning bathrooms to turn on the computer and check email, blogs, etc. After turning the computer on all I got was a blank, black screen with the cursor flashing in the upper corner. Oh, no!!! I turned the power off to the computer and turned it back on to try again and got the same thing. Crap! Had it crashed? Did I need to call someone? Trying not to panic I shut off the power one last time and decided that I would tackle the problem after my other cleaning chores were done. So like a good doobie I went back and finished my chores. Then I sat down again at the computer, turned it on again and it was working fine. Ok, a little spooky! Do you think someone was trying to tell me something? Maybe the same thing that I try to tell my kids over and over again? Work first, then play. Ok, ok, I get it!

February
According to the calendar, February was a short month but we seemed to pack a lot in!
We headed up to Eagar to visit with most of the Whitty family. Deric and his family moved back to Arizona from Indiana. It was so fun to see him again and get the chance to get to know his new family! The kids jumped at the chance to ride horses in Grandma and Grandpa's pasture. Yee Haw!

As Valentine's Day approached we started working on Valentine boxes for school. We did two this year, one for A. and one for PC. PC's class was having a Valentine box contest. The judging criteria was creativity and hard work. Valentine boxes are not usually my favorite. In fact any school project that is dumped on the parents to do at home in the name of "family togetherness" makes me a little grumpy! But my competitive nature won out when the teacher called it a "contest." We decided to take a heart balloon and paper mache it, let it dry, pop the balloon and paint it. Then we cut a hole in the top for the Valentines. Very creative and a lot of hard work, three days to be exact. Had I known that the kids were the judges and not the teacher I wouldn't have put so much time into it.....I mean my son wouldn't have put so much time into it! No winners here...what do ten-year-olds know about the hard work that goes into paper mache?!! It was still an awesome Valentine box.

E. discovered why Valentine's Day is so great. You get to go to school and people pass out CANDY! His teacher, bless her heart, decided that they would make Valentine bags as a class project. What a cutie!
PC had a birthday in February and turned eleven. We had our usual birthday breakfast party. He chose "scrambled eggs with the sausage mixed in them." He was most excited about getting an iPod. I was most excited that PK had no problem sharing his downloads with his younger brother. Happy Birthday, PC!
PC also went to his last Cub Scout Pack Meeting in February. He received his Webelo award and his Arrow of Light award. A few months ago PC announced that he wanted to earn every Webelo activity badge. He worked hard, stayed motivated and did it. All 20 of them! He also got to cross over the bridge into 11-Year-Old Scouts, something he has been waiting to do for a long time! There were no other rank advancements that night so it felt a little bit like the PC Show, but he deserved it!

Here's some funny shots that PK and his friend took of themselves. I think they were going for the perfect Facebook profile picture.
I got permission to post this last one because it was his coolest one. You be the judge!

A.'s box was my favorite so far. We took an empty #10 can and spray painted it red. After it was dry she put glitter foam heart stickers on it, we punched holes in the sides near the top for a ribbon handle and she wrote on the white plastic lid with a red marker. Way easy and way cute and way easy to carry back and forth to school.

Remind me to say, "Thank You."
I was thinking today.....(and I really hope that no one is offended by this!)......that I'm really glad that Heavenly Father is a good planner and a kind creator. Someday I will say "thank you" for the fact that women's bodies were made to sit down to go to the bathroom. Because some days, honestly, that is the only time during the day that I sit down. I think of it as one of those teeny, tiny tender little mercies, that He knew we would need those little breaks throughout the day. Especially when we get to close the door and ignore, for just a minute, anyone who might be talking on the other side of the door. Ahhhhhh.
Here's wishing all of you a great week and a little alone time whenever and wherever you can get it!
