Why is it that I am seldom satisfied with how things are going at any given time? I think at times I come down with a serious case of the "If Onlies." You know, "If only I could do this.." or "If only things were like that.."
I went back to the doctor on Thursday. They removed the splint and the stitches and put on a cast. Everything looks good, we just have to give it time to heal. A lot of time to heal. My biggest issue has been swelling. Not so good when you're wearing a cast that is not flexible. The only way to relieve that is to keep the leg elevated as much as possible. So I've spent the week on the couch and in bed. Here's where the If Onlies come in. It's been a busy six months since Trevor's accident and I've had lots to do. Quite a few times I found myself saying, "If only I had time to just sit and read.. to do some family history.. to surf the web.. to peruse magazines.. to cross stitch.. to watch chick flicks, etc." Well this week I did all of that and then some! Then I found myself saying, "If only I could go grocery shopping.. clean the house.. work out.. do the laundry all by myself.. cook dinner, etc." Perhaps this accident is teaching me to live more in the moment, to find the joy in whatever the present brings while still hoping for the future. Something that we have definitely learned from this year is that there is a plan and in it there is not much room for coasting. Life has a way of testing us and trying our faith quite often. Our job is to just live the plan and be happy every chance we get. So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go read a book, and be darn happy about it!

I only have one "if only" for you. If only I lived closer, I would be able to help you more. I feel for you daily, no seriously, I actually think about you everyday. I'm glad you have Trevor's laptop to keep you busy. Just think, in a few months, this will be merely a stumbling block your family will have had to jump over. It's a good thing you guys are two of the most amazing people I know. Have you read the Twilight series? If not, I strongly suggest it, it will keep you occupied for hours and hours. Love you too.
