I am finally a breadmaker! I'm not sure why but I've been "bread-challenged" for many years. (Funny that I've served as the Food Storage Specialist in my ward and didn't know how to bake bread!) But it seems that 2010 is my year. I got a wheat grinder for Christmas which has made a huge difference because I can use my wheat and make bread with freshly-ground flour. I also found a fantastic recipe for whole-wheat bread. I've been picky about bread from the store because I've wanted only whole wheat and no high fructose corn syrup and as few preservatives as possible. Which means that I was buying pretty expensive bread. Now I am able to make bread once a week that is very healthy and very economical. And it really does not take that much time to do. I'm feeling pretty good about it. I took a picture of my first attempt last month. (They're a little uneven, but with some practice I got better at dividing the dough.)

So I just started making whole wheat bread a couple of weeks ago too! I am in the same boat with dividing the loaves and making them pretty but it still tastes good! Would love to see how your recipe compares to mine!
I don't even buy store bought bread because it sits on our counter and goes moldy - no one eats it. Homemade is soooo much tastier! We are so spoiled to get a loaf from my mom every other week or so. A tip for making the loaves an even size: if you have a kitchen scale - split the dough and weigh it - add a little, subtract a little until you get it even. I don't personally make bread, but I have seen my mom do this many times!
