Are you kidding me?

We have had a most interesting weekend. Just when you thought things were becoming nice and smooth there comes a bump in the road. Well, as you can see from our last post we went over a pretty large bump a few months ago. Friday night we ran into another bump in the road. Here is the story.

Friday afternoon we sent Parker off to a scout outing to the top of the Superstition Mountains on a backpacking trip. Trevor and Pearce were lucky enough to be given some D-Back tickets and went to an exhibition game at Chase field in Phoenix. Lisa, Aubrey and Ethan went to Grandma Davis' for the evening with the cousins. As Lisa was getting ready to leave the Davis' she was gathering the kids and was holding sweet little 5 month old Mary Jane Broadbent, and headed down to the basement. She lost her balance fell down the stairs. In trying to protect the baby she was unable to break her fall and landed on her ankle as she slid down the stairs. After handing the baby over to Karen she looked at her ankle and saw that her foot was turned the wrong way-- perpendicular to her leg. Her ankle was dislocated and possibly broken. Lisa and Karen decided that they needed some help so Karen ran across the street to get the neighbors while Aubrey called Trevor. The neighbors came over and decided that we needed to call the paramedics to transport Lisa to the hospital. After a long time in the stairwell with several paramedics trying to get an IV started and splinting the ankle they helped Lisa hop up the stairs and get on a gurney. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital where Trevor and Pearce were waiting. (Sorry Pearce, for having to leave the game early and not getting your baseball signed. We owe you an autograph!) After xrays were taken she was put to sleep so that her ankle could be put back into place. She woke up with the ankle all nice and straight with a nice big splint. We got home at about 2:45am and well, the bedroom is up stairs and Lisa wasn't able to maneuver on crutches yet so she had to scoot up the stairs while sitting backwards. Finally home and into bed, where she has stayed since Friday night. She has finally become a bit more comfortable with some pain management from some good drugs, ice and lots of rest. The fibula and the tibia were both broken and she will have surgery Wednesday morning to pin everything into place. We will let you know how it goes.

Holy Cow! I can't help but think about my own shattered ankle exactly 4years ago this month. I had pins and screws put in also a few days later. I'm glad you got an ambulance ride. I got a ride in the back of a suburban trying to slowly eek our way out of Bulldog Canyon. 45 minutes while my girlfriend held my leg and I screamed over every bump. I sat in a wheelchair for 8 weeks. I hope you fare better than I did. My stomach is sick just thinking about your recovery. I think my ankle is hurting again. But, somehow I survived and so will you. I'll keep you in my prayers.
